Spada Codatronca This 208mph mega motor has more in common with the humble Smart than it looks.
Paolo Spada, working with his designer dad Ercole who penned Alfa Romeos in the 1960s, came up with the Codatronca’s design. And it proves how much you can get away if you give a motor a slinky sounding Italian name ‑ Codatronca’s English translation ‘Cut Tail’ doesn’t sound quite as up-market. Lopping off the back end is a design idea Ercole used on some of his famous models such as the Alfa TZ. It gives the aluminium two-seat Spada with its lightweight magnesium roof a decent-sized load space. When it goes on sale early next year the Codatronca will come in two versions, the Turismo Sportivo and TS Veloce. Both models will use a supercharged version of the Corvette V8’s engine. But while the TS will ‘only’ have 600bhp, the TSV’s engine will pump out 100bhp more. Both cars will have rocket ship performance and if you get overtaken by one a digital read out on that snub tail will tell you exactly how fast it’s going – assuming if it’s not been and gone before you’ve seen it.
